Through Our Eyes: Living with Dementia
An Art installation for ‘Diversity in Art’ Exhibition by Stamford Diversity Group at Stamford Arts Centre from 18 -29 August 2026.

This artwork has been created by members of our Art Group and Square Hole Club at Dementia Support South Lincs., a local charity supporting people living with dementia in their own communities across Bourne, Market Deeping, Stamford and the surrounding villages.
Our Art Group began by creating a paper-mache head, representing a person living with dementia and the many thoughts and feelings that can exist beneath the surface.
The members of our Square Hole Club then added thought bubbles, sharing insights into their own dementia journeys. These bubbles offer a glimpse into the personal experiences of living with dementia, the emotions, challenges, memories, hopes and moments of joy that makes every person’s journey unique.
As part of this project, we also explored the different types of dementia. We printed the names of different forms of dementia and invited our members to colour them in. Through this simple, creative activity, we hope to raise awareness and encourage people to recognise that dementia is not one single condition. There are different types, and everyone’s experience can be different.

Running throughout our artwork are six words that are at the heart of what we do at Dementia Support South Lincs.
Live Hope Friendship Fun Love Happiness
These words represent so much of what we want for people we support. Dementia may be part of someone’s story, but it does not define who they are. We believe people living with dementia should continue to LIVE their lives, hold on to HOPE, build FRIENDSHIPS, have FUN, feel LOVE, and find moments of HAPPINESS.
We have then completed the piece by adding lights not only to capture your attention but also to represent brain neurons.
Our artwork is a celebration of individuality, creativity and connection. Few pictures of the artwork at Stamford Arts Centre Gallery.
